aacute;s Martín and co-workers illustrates a new type of organocatalyst based on sugar amino acids (SAA). These hybrid dipeptide-like organocatalysts combine two highly-modulable building blocks: amino acids and carbohydrates. The carbohydrate motif is embedded in the peptidic backbone and induces a well-defined conformation that is responsible for the reactivity and stereoselectivity.
