Polymersomes are among the most stable noncovalent vesicular assemblies. However, incorporation of photoactive molecules into their lumen renders these assemblies sensitive to light-activated rupture and controlled liberation of their internalized cargo. In their Communication on
page 1566 ff., S. Lecommandoux, N. D. McClenaghan et al. report two distinct mechanisms whereby photoirradiation induces a sudden osmotic pressure increase, which is the origin of these micro-explosions.
