2 and a simple base such as pyrrolidine.In their Communication, P. D. Giorgi et al. describe an efficient one-pot process to convert simple starting materials such as allylic alcohols into valuable substituted chromenes and dihydroquinolines. The reaction proceeds through an oxidation/hetero-Michael addition/aldolization/crotonization and involves salicylaldehyde and aminobenzaldehyde derivatives as partners, which could also be generated in situ from the corresponding benzyl alcohols.
