On page 4662, a core-satellite structure was fabricated by H. Kuang and co-workers using partly-complementary-DNA-functionalized Au NPs of 35 ± 2 nm and quantum dots (QDs) of 6 ± 1 nm. The fluorescence of the QD satellites was quenched after assembly with the Au core. In the presence of the target miR, the hairpin sequence of the core-satellite assembly was destroyed by DNA hybridization, leading to the restoration of fluorescence.
