Hollow nanoparticles that are assembled from stabilized cobalt metal nanocrystals serve as a highly active and robust electrocatalyst for hydrogen generation from neutral-pH water. In their Communication on
page 6725 ff., M. Ma and co-workers show how to synthesize this non-noble metal catalyst, which is more robust than the golden-standard Pt/C catalyst in neutral-pH water. The picture shows that the hollow nanoparticle catalyst would work efficiently in sea water.
