Single crystals of the new sulfides FeV₄S₈ (I) and KFe₂V₈S₁₆ (II) are prepared via a melting salt method using, Fe, V, S, K₂S in the case of (II), and KI (evacuated silica tubes, 1073 K, 3 d; cooling to 873 K at a rate of 3 K/h).
