This paper considers reset rules design for linear systems for the purpose of improving 00133&_mathId=si5.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S1751570X16000133&_rdoc=1&_issn=1751570X&md5=24de4b0c4979d8675328d55df3edf3bb" title="Click to view the MathML source">L2 gain performance. Novel Lyapunov-based reset rules are proposed such that the 00133&_mathId=si5.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S1751570X16000133&_rdoc=1&_issn=1751570X&md5=24de4b0c4979d8675328d55df3edf3bb" title="Click to view the MathML source">L2 gain performance of reset control systems can be improved compared with the stable base systems, and the proposed method is then extended to observer-based design. Moreover, reset rules design for stabilizing unstable base systems are proposed such that prespecified 00133&_mathId=si5.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S1751570X16000133&_rdoc=1&_issn=1751570X&md5=24de4b0c4979d8675328d55df3edf3bb" title="Click to view the MathML source">L2 gain performance can be achieved. Illustrative examples are given to support our results.
