The flow of the Bransfield Current may be interpreted as a buoyant gravity current. This flow recirculates counterclockwise around the South Shetland Islands (SSI). The buoyant gravity current originates a recirculating anticyclonic eddy. The physical support of the marine system around the SSI is intimately connected.
