Studies on surface pitting during laser assisted cleaning of metallic surfaces. The particulates simulated were of ellipsoidal geometry with varying sizes. Pitting depth was found to increase with increasing ratio of minor to major axis. The behavior theoretically corroborated by invoking principle of geometric optics.
