While IB research has increasingly covered internationalization of upper echelons, the association between top management internationalization and accounting variables has been largely ignored. By linking top management internationalization with firms’accounting quality, the present paper finds that internationalization of CFOs mitigates the level of managerial discretion in financial reporting. In particular, our analysis of German DAX firms shows that CFOs' international education and international work experience are associated with higheraccounting quality. The paper calls for a nuanced approach of measuring top management internationalization, going beyond single-measure operationalizations. Our study provides a new perspective on the link between top management internationalization and accounting quality.
