Consequences from short-term mild stress can be alleviated with a recovery period. Long-term mild stress causes sustained, increased corticosterone levels. Elevated corticosterone in the long-term group is not alleviated with recovery. Long-term mild stress causes impaired sympathovagal modulation, as assessed by HRV. Mild, daily stressors can accumulate over time to have adverse physiological impacts.
