A new 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)quinazolin-4(3H)-one derived acylhydrazone QP has been developed. QP exhibits high selectivity to Al3 + through reversible binding. Al3 + detection by QP displays significant blue-shift and enhanced emission. QP is applicable to Al3 + detection in real water samples.
