Mixing of Aleppo pine and Holm oak litter increases biochemical diversity and alleviates N limitations of microbial activity

Single and mixed litter of Aleppo pine and Holm oak were studied. Pine litter played an antagonistic effect in mixed OL litter. OF-H mixed litter presented highest biochemical diversity and microbial activities. Biochemical and microbial co-structure demonstrated a strong N-driving force. Outputs could explain transition in Mediterranean forest secondary succession.
