Validation of mathematical model and reporting of new data for tank cleaning with a horizontal water jet. At small cleaning distances, L ≤ 200 mm, there was a good agreement with published mathematical models. At longer cleaning distances the models over-predicted the cleaning effect. This over-prediction was ascribed to momentum losses from observed jet break-up and splatter. Correcting for momentum losses partly accommodated the deviations from model predictions.
