Tagasaste (Cytisus proliferus) is a N-fixing woody species used as fodder supplement. In this study 3.4 Mg CO2-e ha−1 yr−1 and 5.8 Mg CO2-e ha−1 yr−1 were sequestered in soil and biomass. Tagasaste will restore carbon into dryland environments which are marginal for farming. Integrating tagasaste as alley systems will also improve the sustainability of these farming systems.
