GO chemically was modified with 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (2-PTSC) as ligand.

Shortening the removal time of Hg2+ ions by the ultrasound power combined with adsorption method.

GO/2-PTSC was applied as a novel adsorbent for removal of Hg(II) from aqueous solution.

The adsorption variables were optimized by CCD under RSM.

GO/2-PTSC showed excellent adsorption capacity compared to GO.
