Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), or early mortality syndrome (EMS) is a severe, emergent shrimp disease. The catecholamines norepinephrine and dopamine increase motility of EMS-causing V. parahaemolyticus. The catecholamines significantly increase the virulence of EMS-causing V. parahaemolyticus to whiteleg shrimp. The prokaryotic catecholamine receptor antagonist LED209 protects shrimp challenged with V. parahaemolyticus.
