Organo-palygorskite (OPal) was aiming to use in oil-based drilling fluids. Organic modification did not change the crystal structure of palygorskite (Pal). OPal was suitable for oil-based drilling fluids since good rheological properties. Thermal stability of OPal fluids depended on the surfactants. Rheology of OPal fluids was influenced by multiple factors.
