The Hg2+ probe based on Rhodamine B isothiocyanate and Fe3O4@Au nanocomposites has been synthesized.

The Hg2+ probe (Fe3O4@Au-TA-RBI) has biocompatible and magnetic targeting properties.

The Hg2+ probe (Fe3O4@Au-TA-RBI) can detect Hg2+ selectively and sensitively (LOD = 3.03 nM).

The Hg2+ probe (Fe3O4@Au-TA-RBI) is robust and can be recycled by a magnet and reused by addition of free RBI into Fe3O4@Au solutions.

The Hg2+ probe (Fe3O4@Au-TA-RBI) is low cytotoxicity and can be used in living cell imaging.
