Wildfire ignitions were mainly spatially clustered in Fujian, China.

Spatial pattern of fire occurrence was caused by the collective influence of biophysical and socioeconomic factors.

The predictive accuracy of fire occurrence model for study area is 76%.

Most of the area of Fujian is threatened by high and medium fire risk.

Allocation of fire preventive resources should be based on geographic patterns rather than administrative units.
