Current methods for detecting cellular ROS production are not site-specific.

Oxidation of 3,3′-diaminobenzidine (DAB) results in a localized signal.

A proof-of-concept method for site-specific subcellular ROS detection is reported.

The method is based on DAB oxidation by a photodynamic compound.

A general proposal for site-specific ROS detection based on this method is proposed.
