An effective pretreatment of cornstalk by combining ethanol and NaOH was developed. Low temperature and low-concentration alkali are used in the present process. High yield of monosaccharide was obtained after ACOS pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis. A slightly higher butanol concentration was achieved using ACOS pretreatment compared to the pure glucose fermentation.
