The refining effect of Y addition on the as-cast microstructure has been observed. The homogenization effect of yttrium addition on grain structure has been confirmed. Yttrium addition is observed to reduce V(C, N, O) precipitated on grain boundaries. Many fine Y-rich particles, less than 200 nm, are found in V-4Cr-4Ti-0.3Y alloys.
