Bulk Fe-20Mn-11Al-1.8C-5Cr alloy with ultra-fine grains has been successfully fabricated by mechanical alloying and spark plasma sintering. K-carbide ((Fe, Mn)3AlCx) and Cr7C3 carbide precipitated during spark plasma sintering. An explanation on the formation of k-carbide and Cr7C3 carbide is proposed. The sintered alloy exhibits excellent hardness and compressive strength.
