TX-45 was efficiently removed by nZVAl-activated HP, PS and PMS treatments.

nZVAl/oxidant treatment was affected by water/wastewater characteristics.

nZVAl/PMS treatment showed highest TX-45 removal.

Acute toxicity was affected by water quality and type of test specie.

No cytotoxic/genotoxic effects were evident for original and nZVAl/PS-treated TX-45.
