Bacterial strains were isolated from the vicinity of uranium tailing repositories. Characterization at different levels was applied for screening of bacteria with bioremediation potential. Most of the isolates tolerated high levels of uranium. Microscopic techniques suggested the formation of U-phosphate mineral phases. Potential of certain bacterial strains for U immobilization was evidenced.
