Hyperiid amphipod communities were compared during summer from 2002 to 2008 off the northern Baja California coast During the summer 2005 the abundance of Lestrigonus schizogeneios showed a remarkable decrease with rapid recovery in 2006 The second most different summer was 2002 due to a subarctic water intrusion resulting in the presence of Themisto pacifica The influence of El Niño in summer 2006 was evident by a tongue of warm water associated to high diversity Similarity analysis indicated resilience of key subtropical species (L. schizogenios, P. brevidens, V. armata, and E. minuta)
