The studied newts were found abundant in the spoil heaps but not in the fishponds. Artificial pools in technically reclaimed heaps are not suitable for the newts. Spontaneously developed pools were suitable for the newts, even in reclaimed heaps. Newts’ preferences in post-mining pools correspond with their natural habitats.
