We measured 2D natural abundance Si-29 magic-angle flipping spectra on a series of seven alkali and alkaline earth silicate glass compositions.
We demonstrate that a combination of Cu(II) as a paramagnetic dopant with echo train acquisition reduces the experiment time of natural abundance Si-29 measurements in glasses by two orders of magnitude.
The Si-29 nuclear shielding anisotropy depends linearly on the Si–non-bridging oxygen bond length in Q3 sites.
The Si–non-bridging oxygen bond length varies linearly with the cation potential of coordinating network modifier cations.
The Si–non-bridging oxygen bond length increases with increasing modifier cation coordination.
