Toxicity evaluation of e-juice and its soluble aerosols generated by electronic cigarettes using recombinant bioluminescent bacteria responsive to specific cellular damages
Evaluated toxicity of e-liquid and its aerosols generated by e-cigarette using stress-responsive bacteria. Liquid e-juice inhibited growth by repressing genes responsible for cellular stress and repair. Solubilized e-juice aerosols do not inhibit growth but induce cellular stress and repair genes. Direct exposure of e-liquid in high doses could cause total cellular DNA fragmentation.
