Stability of directional wells drilled in anisotropic formations has not be resolved yet. Drilling parallel to bedding plane may cause severe shear failure. Horizontal Transverse isotropy is a good model for shale formations. ANNIE model is a good approach for stiffness parameter estimations. Stress transformation for deviated section of the borehole should not be ignored.
