Increased dissolved-water level enhances tribocorrosive micropitting nucleation. In free-water condition micropit propagation is retarded by predominant mild wear. Dissolved-water influences the ZDDP-derived tribofilm thickness. Dissolved-water alters the phosphate chain length and ZnO/ZnS ratio in tribofilms. The phosphate contribution to the tribofilm is decreased by dissolved-water in oil.
