A haplotype in CD209 promoter is associated to HIV-1 infection risk in male IDU. None of the SNPs in CD209 promoter was associated with HIV-1 status. The protective haplotype displays lower expression of CD209 mRNA in PBMCs. The protective haplotype has reduced promoter activity in vitro.
