Chinese source apportionment was evaluated for sulfate aerosol (SO42−) by province. The tagged tracer method was applied to determine whole-year source apportionment. Shandong province had the highest SO2 emissions and largest impact over East Asia. SO2 reductions over north and central China are beneficial for China and downwind. SO2 reductions over south China contribute to the improvement of local air quality.
