Sixty-seven of the 222 weed species, found at 19 sites, have traditional use purposes. Of the useful species identified, 30% are very common rice weeds in Africa. Only 27% of the useful species are occasionally spared or collected at weeding. Most often spared or collected species are Bidens pilosa and Ipomoea aquatica. Useful non-cultivated plants grown in a crop are primarily perceived as weeds.
