A practical and efficient approach for the cogging torque reduction is proposed.

The approach relies on dividing PMs radially and shifting PM pieces peripherally.

The cogging torque of the AFPM machine can be reduced about 87% using this method.

The negative impact of the proposed method on generator loadability is negligible.

Using this approach, PM eddy losses are reduced due to the magnet segmentation.
