A planetary wave model for Saturn’s 10.7-h periodicities

We develop a theoretical model of Rossby waves in Saturn’s polar stratosphere.

We find vertically-propagating waves that drift slowly westward.

They drive field-aligned currents that may explain the 10.7 h periodicities.

To generate currents of 1 MA requires wind speeds of about 70 m/s.
