Impaired auditory processing and altered structure of the endbulb of Held synapse in mice lacking the GluA3 subunit of AMPA receptors

The lack of GluA3 leads to decreased ABR peak amplitudes, increased latency of peak 2 and early onset hearing loss. The number and size of PSDs in the synapse of the auditory nerve on bushy cells is reduced in GluA3-KO mice. The absence of GluA3 hinders ABR threshold recovery after transient sound reduction.
