DNA barcoding is found to be an efficient tool for commodity authentication of nutmeg mace. This is a first report on detection of M. malabarica mace adulteration in traded samples of nutmeg mace using DNA Barcoding. psbA-trnH proved to be an ideal barcode for detection of M. malabarica mace adulteration in traded samples of nutmeg mace. Three out of the five market samples analysed proved positive for adulteration.
