In a small firm, the founder, or owner-manager, often puts his or her stamp on the way things are done. He or she has, or is, the solution to many problems and tries to maintain control of the firm's operations. Considering these, this paper aims to investigate the degree to which the owner-managers from Baia Mare area (Romania) are controlling or even getting involved in the functional management of their firm. By conducting an empirical research, the paper brings an insight into the reality of the managerial approach the sampled owner-managers use.
