Preparation of aluminium graphene surface nanocomposites by mechanical impregnation of graphene nanoplatelets is described. The process consists of application of pressure on graphene coated Al plates which is locally softened by Joule’s heating. Characterization includes microstructural, spectroscopic, diffraction, nanoindentation and microhardness studies. Significant improvement in the surface mechanical properties of aluminium is observed.
