Poly(4,7-dithien-2-yl-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole) films electrodeposited in three 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium ionic liquids (ILs).
Nano-textured micro-smooth PDTBT films formed regardless of the anion type (or IL): BF4- (IL1), PF6- (IL2), and Tf2N- (IL3).
The yield in PDTBT film increased with increasing viscosity of the IL (or anion type): IL2 (PF6-) < IL1 (BF4-) < IL3 (Tf2N-).
PDTBT molecules with greater degree of conjugation formed in the hydrophobic ILs (IL2, IL3) than in the hydrophilic one (IL1).
IL3, the least viscous and most conductive of these ILs, resulted in electrochromically outstanding PDTBT/IL pair at 1000 nm.
