Field experiments were carried out on cardoon in Sardinia (Italy). Biomass and seed yields were significantly affected by plant age and management type. Highest yield were achieved increasing N rate (Exp. 1) or plant density (Exp. 2). No differences were detected within experiment as regard calorific value. Energy efficiency doubles if biomass + seeds are both exploited.
