Dissolved Fe within the CDW is diluted by mixing with AASW during the formation of MCDW in the Ross Sea. MCDW was seen above Mawson Bank but not Pennell Bank. A sedimentary input of Fe is seen above Pennell Bank. Strong tidal energy over shallow banks brings Fe-rich deep waters to the euphotic zone. The presence of MCDW above Mawson Bank hinders mixing of dFe into the euphotic zone.
