Improvements of film cooling effectiveness by using Barchan dune shaped ramps

A Barchan-dune-shaped-ramp (BDSR) film cooling concept was explored experimentally.

PSP technique was used to quantify cooling effectiveness based on mass transfer analog.

50–100% improvement in film cooling effectiveness was achieved with the BDA design.

Down-wash flow induced by BDSR was found to enhance film cooling effectiveness.

Both the location and height of the BDSR would affect the cooling performance.
