Temperature in-situ powder X-ray diffraction of 4PbO·PbSO4 by two separate synthesis methods were done. Synthesis route one was thermal degradation of 3PbO·PbSO4·H2O. Synthesis route two was thermal reaction of 4PbO with PbSO4. The two different routes produced crystals with different shapes and sizes of the final reaction product. Neutron powder diffraction and powder x-ray diffraction showed that the two final products had similar crystallographic characteristics.
