We tested a new strategy to restore degraded areas in the Amazon, comparing native and exotic trees.

A native tree species showed better survival and faster growth rates than exotic eucalyptus.

The native species also showed high canopy cover and litter production, suppressing invasive grasses.

Neither species responded to biochar application in degraded soils.
