We hypothesized that rough-and-tumble play (R&T) influences sexual development. We assessed juvenile R&T frequency and adult sexual behaviour of American mink. R&T predicted long copulations in males, suggesting improved sperm competition. R&T predicted long latencies to copulate in females, perhaps aiding in mate choice. Whether play has a causal role in such correlations needs further research.
