Rice soils irrigated with As-rich water were analysed by μ-synchrotron methods Arsenic from irrigation is mainly absorbed on Fe-hydroxides in root coatings and on disperse ones. Root coatings are effective As-barriers, but As was also detected inside the root. Root As(V) is partly reduced to As(III) and transported to the edible grain. In the seed, some As is found inside the coating, but most within the embryo.
