Novel 9,13-disubstituted berberine derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for the antistaphylococcal activity. The antibacterial activities were investigated against several Staphylococcus aureus strains. Most berberine derivatives (16–35) exhibited better antibacterial activity than berberine. Compound 20 showed the most potent antibacterial activity.
